Glory be to God for dappled things -
For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow;
For rose-moles all in stipple upon trout that swim;
Fresh-firecoal chestnut-falls; finches wings;
Landscape plotted and pieced - fold, follow, and plough;
And àll tràdes, their gear and tackle and trim.

All things counter, original, spare, strange;
Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how?)
With swift, slow; sweet, sour; adazzle, dim;
He fathers-forth whose beauty is past change:
Praise him.

Gelobt sei Gott für gesprenkelte Schöpfung -
Für Himmel, vielfarbig, wie Vieh gefleckt;
Für schwimmende Forelle mit rosigen Stellen übersät;
Finkenflügel; Kastanienfall wie Funkenflug;
Pferch und Pflug - Flur in Flicken gestreckt;
Und alle Gewerbe, ihr Gewand und Geschirr und Gerät.

Alle Dinge ureigen, selten, fremd, vermischt;
Was immer unstet ist, (wer wüßte wie?) gescheckt;
Mit süß, sauer; blendend, bleich; schweigend, beredt;
Er hebt hervor, dessen Schönheit ohne Wandel ist:
Ihn preis′ im Gebet.
